What is Adopt-a-Family?
Adopt-a-Family is our annual holiday program which pairs individuals, families, groups and office teams with Compass families who are homeless or at imminent risk and lack the resources to buy holiday gifts. For many families, these gifts will be the only gifts they will receive during the holidays.
Registration is officially OPEN!
How Does Adopt-a-Family Work?
STEP
1
Sign up to participate in Adopt-a-Family via the form. In the form, make you specify your preferences, such as how many families/people you would like to adopt. You should anticipate spending a minimum of $150 per family member.
There are two options for participating in Adopt-a-Family: traditional wishlists and gift card wishlists.

SIGN UP to fulfill wishlist requests for gift cards from specific retailers for your adopted family or families
Traditional Adopt-a-Family
SIGN UP to fulfill wishlist requests for your adopted family or families based on the lists they provide.
When registering, we strongly encourage a donation to Compass of $150 per family adopted to help offset the significant costs of running this program and to help ensure our client families receive the full range of services they need throughout the year, not just the holidays.

You will be informed of your matched family or families and receive their holiday wish list(s).

Go shopping! Learn more about your adopted family or families through their wish list(s) and help fulfill their holiday wishes.

Drop off your gifts. Gift Card Adopt-a-Family participants can mail or drop off their gift cards. Gift cards must be received by December 13th at the latest for timely distribution to adopted families.

All Adopt-a-Family gifts and donations are tax-deductible. Our tax ID is 94-1156622. Please keep your receipts so you can attached those to the letter for tax purposes.You will receive a thank you card in January describing your participation in the program.
Fulfill Items for our Holiday Wishlist
Purchase holiday items from our Amazon Wishlist to support homeless children and parents. You can buy these items from the list and have them shipped directly to Compass, or use the wishlist as a shopping guide and shop locally!
Oftentimes, these gifts will support families in need who are new to Compass and just accessing resourcesm and missed the chance to participate in Adopt-a-Family.

Volunteer for Adopt-a-Family
There are many different ways you can volunteer during Adopt-a-Family, whether you are adopting a family or not!
Get involved this holiday season and help with Adopt-a-Family administrative tasks or gift drop off and pick up days in San Francisco. It takes a lot of people to make this project successful each year and we'd love your help!
